SGI-USA is a lay Buddhist organization based on the teachings of Nichren Daishonin, a twelfth-century Japanese Buddhist reformer whose teachings established that every human being can be enlightened in this lifetime.
The SGI (Soka Gakkai International) fosters a sense of mission in each member, reinforcing the idea that each person has a role in world peace and that by undergoing their human revolution, each member can be a force for change in their family and community.

Lighting the Torch of Hope: The Resolve of Youth
The SGI-New Orleans is hosting a cultural event to bring hope to the Youth of New Orleans. Performers will come from the Gulf States and Arkansas, ranging in ages 5-35, to show the struggle of young people and light the torch of hope in New Orleans. Performances include Venezuelan Dance, Japanese Taiko Drumming, Elementary School Performance, Spoken Word and much more. Free and open to the public, all ages welcomed.
Soka Gakkai International President, Daisaku Ikeda, says "Humanity today is longing for a sustainable global society. Such a society is surely one in which the youth can flourish and prosper. Never forget, my young friends, that your victories in the present are the key to making such a future a reality."
